Abstract

People from all over the world use social media to facilitate communication and content sharing. Social media is a great database of society’s behavior. Data provided by social media, so-called “big data”. Many academic research have been accomplished in this field. The goal is clear - to better understand the behavior of a society. This paper study the use of social media and big data in the field of capital markets. Behavioral finance considers investor’s sentiment as a factor of capital market volatility. In this context, social media is a new and exciting tool to collect the data about society and individuals sentiment. On other hand, social media usage for information disclosure and reporting transfer corporate information to stakeholders in a timely manner. Timeliness enhances efficiency of capital markets. This paper provides an understanding of social media and transmission mechanism between social media and capital market and using Social media to report and disclose financial results. Subsequently, the main papers and their findings, challenges and future prospect are summarized.
