Abstract

The dramatic developments and rapidly changing in the competitive markets, many companies have been forced to join the global markets. One of the most important tools of information and communication technologies that play an important role in the integration of information in the organization and on the main conditions for joining the global market, is enterprise resource planning system (ERP). Actually, the culmination of information systems is ERP. The purpose of this paper is to present a clear picture of the enterprise resource planning systems. So in this study, we show the most appropriate definition and the evolution of enterprise resource planning system. Also the requirements and implementation of ERP system is expressed. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of ERP system is reviewed. The challenges of implementing ERP system in Iran so far they have encountered, have been reported. The results of this research for organizations that want to have preliminary information about ERP system, is useful.
